- The aim of life according to the Sikh Gurus is not to attain salvation or a heavenly abode called paradise but to develop the best in us which is God.
- Hukum(The Divine command): Hukum of the lord is inexpressible and is similar to the Lord itself. The concept of Hukum is similar to the idea of Maya in Hindu Philosophy. The divine play of the god of which all humans are part of.
- Darkness cannot dispel darkness. The illusive ego born out of darkness cannot be eliminated by own efforts.
- The egoistic consciousness is the root cause of all our depraved thoughts and deeds and we suffer from unhappiness, frustration and misery.
- Even if we become intellectually aware of it, arduous efforts are required to change our mentality or consciousness. This transformation of consciousness will be perceptible in the change of thought, belief, action and behavior of the aspirant in every aspect of the life.
- By constant Simran(remembering the God) mind gets settled and attains a state of bliss and happiness. For Simran, it is necessary to become an egoless, humble and selfless servant and to be a good servant it is necessary that one gets dyed in divine color.
- Nobody finds God by walking in his own will.
- ‘Shabad Guru Surat Dhun Chela’: The potentially powerful and all pervading Divine power lying dormant and docile within man, is one eternal and ever present Guru and Godly Guide(Shabad Guru). We become recipients(Chela) of its ever available guidance always from within, when it is awakened into a vibrant ecstatic and euphoric feeling and experience in effortless spontaneity.
This concepts highlights the end result of living your life in a righteous manner, at the final moment when we finally surrender to the almighty, his consciousness is settled in us. This consciousness is ever present and can be called to forefront of our being spontaneously. This dissolves our egoistic thoughts and we see the world again from divine sight realizing our not so important existence. It is like a Guru that does remind us what is important and what is not. - Intellect is a feat of memory.
- Truth is with you already, it your Self already.
Truth here doesn’t refer to logical truth or facts with proofs. It is from point of view of experience. Whatever you feel, see or think is that True? Or is it clouded with our ego, mind and desires. Trying to be close to truth borns out of the desire to see reality as is. After practice and meditation, when you remove parts of you which are born out of your ego or trauma, you end reaching your truth. The truth of how reality actually is. And this reality is divine and like in point 8 always with you. - You have not to do everything in the positive sense of the word Truth, in order to realize God. ‘Simply undo’ what you have done in the way of making your prison house and there you are God already, Truth personified already
- A thirst for the divine and the goodness of actions is the essence of Sikh religion.
- A Sikh is not to renounce the world like a deserter from the battlefield of life, but he is to fight the evil while living in the world.
- People should not nurse their soul in loneliness. Instead they should be holy heroes while fully engaged in the affairs of the world. Their holiness should appear in the abundance of their love for divine, in the utter selflessness of their lives and in their firm devotion to the cause of righteousness.
- The path of virtuous deeds is the only discipline acceptable to God.
